Spyro is my all-time favorite game! In fact, it's my #1 comfort game!! I discovered the series as a very little kid, my mom was the one to introduce me to it. It was one of the first video games I ever played, along with The Sims (don't ask which one. probably 2? this isn't about that). I originally played it on the PS2, which was located in my parents room, yet somehow I managed to play it a ton.

ORIGINAL TRIOLOGY

Played originally on the PlayStation 2, the Original Trilogy is near and dear to my heart. I played it a lot over the years! So much that both memory cards we had were full (filled with data from this + other games) so I just. played whichever game I wanted in one sitting. Didn't always get all the way through, and most of the time I only played until reaching my favorite levels. but still. insane behavior why didn't I just ask for more memory.

Spyro the Dragon: I didn't really play this one as much as the others. IDK. I think I found it kinda ... boring? Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it, I definetly played it, just ... not as much as the other two. I think I was just super used to how the other games worked (swimming mechanic my beloved), plus there was more gameplay compared to the first one I think.

Ripto's Rage: FAVORITE GAME EVER!!! Absolutely no. 1 in my trilogy ranking. To me it's just iconic. 100% played this one the most as a kid. Because of that, I got super used to the controls/mechanics, which might be why the first game disinterested me so much. Elora, Hunter, The Professor my beloveds. Shoutout to Moneybags for introducing me to capitalism. Aquaria Towers I will always love you.

Year of the Dragon: Also played this one quite a bit! They added a bunch of new characters to play as, I think my favorite is Shelia. Hunter's back and he's still a #boyfaliure. Him and Bianca are cute though. Lowkey my mind has drawn a lot of parallels between Bianca and Cynder, which I've happily dumped in my Spyro AU (Crystalized Dragons). Maybe that will get it's own page one day. idk. this ain't about that.

ENTER THE DRAGNOFLY

I do NOT remember this game being as. janky. as it was/is. The power of childhood nostalgia + just being a child and having no standards I guess. The level with the aliens on the farm (Crop Circle County) lives in my head rent free. Okay to be fair I think I just like that concpet but still. That minigame with the cows was fun and really the only thing I remember other than the game's general plot. OH! I also liked that you got different breaths (TLoS foreshadowing lol).

THE LEGEND OF SPYRO

TLoS is a darker take on the series. I've only played the first game, though it's been a hot minute and will probably watch cutscenes for all of them sometime down the road.

A New Beginning: Facinated me tbh. I liked the different breaths you could gain, though I struggled with the combat system (not a fault of the game, that's just something I kinda avoided in games as a kid). There was one part where you controled Spyro as he actually flew and oh my god I was so happy. Spyro and Sparx are the brothers ever ... love how sassy Sparx is. And Cynder! My girl! Daughter! This game made me ship Spinder lol I love them.

The Eternal Night: TBA.

Dawn of the Dragon: TBA.

SKYLANDERS

Debated having this section, but ... well, I mean. Spyro was in Skylanders. I played Skylanders. like. multiple games. I have so many figurines. Anyway, Skylanders as a whole barely had anything to do with Spryo and tbh it was kind of an odd choice for them to include him. like. what was that. All of their other characters are original ... what the hell.

REIGNITED TRILOGY

The Reignited Trilogy is a remaster of the Original Trilogy that came out in 2018. It kind of, well, reignited (pun very much intented, thank you) my love for Spyro? As stated previously, I had it on the PS2, which was in my parent's bedroom for most of the years. Eventually the PS2 got moved to the living room, but I was kind of disinterested in playing on the TV/not being in my room lol. The lure of being a purple dragon collecting gems was far too strong and I got Reignited as soon as I saw it in stores. And oh, chat, I was SO back. The artstyle they chose was wonderfully cartoony and the locations were beautiful. Seriously. I need to do, like, a study or something on them because they're just that captivating to me.

My opinions on the games have remained the same, more or less, so you can just scroll up to the Original Trilogy to see that if you want. Playing this for the first time felt like that Ratatoullie scene where Ego is reminded of his childhood. You know the one don't lie to me.
